Cannot mount ntfs volume (ntfs-3g)

Hi !

try to preface the command with "sudo". Indeed, that command needs to be executed as superuser. Report here the output you get if that fails.

To make it clear, enter in a terminal

sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdg1 /media/SimpleDrivePS -o force

mommaf, Forcing the mount would be a little bit risky, would easy that boots windows and shutdown correctly, then you wouldn't have to force the mount.

I tried to enter the above sudo mount, it is giving me this error now... '/dev/sdg1': No such file or directory. Any more suggestions? Do I enter that command exactly like it is above or am a possible entering in incorrectly? It did ask me for a password before I received the error message. Thanks

i think you should just pres sudo fdisk -l in the terminal and then show the output to Mario César Señoranis

I am sorry but it looks like you don't have any NTFS partition, that could be the problem.

This may be kinda weird since I've never been working in windows when my Ubuntu suddenly stopped to mount the ntfs partition of XP. I've just been working in it to update some Mozilla plug-ins and after that it started acting up to refuse to mount it.

A clean windows boot up and exit for an Ubuntu session was all that was needed to get back to access it.

And why do my " and @ keys interchange place in my keyboard in Ubuntu?

when using force mount .. i too get the error Directory Not found .. so what shall I do .. though i can see NTFS partitions there

It shows that NTFS partitions are detected ... Please help me !!!

....I'm no Linux buff but it looks to me like I have somehow solved a similar problem.
I have a dual booting laptop (winXP/ubuntu8.04) with Ubuntu installed in ntfs file with wubi.
It has been working perfectly for some time...
The other day, for some unknown "win-doze" reason, the XP session would not shut down. It got stuck just after "Saving User Preferences". So I forced it shut by pressing the on/off button for a while.
After this, Ubuntu would not start anymore, giving all sorts of cryptic (to me) messages like:
cannot mount /hda2/root, and started the system in shell only.
After trying a few times over and over, I got the message that I should exit linux, restart in windows and execute a:
chkdsk /r
After that I should reboot in windows, then shut-down, restart and try to reboot Ubuntu.
Somehow it worked.
This has happened once again today (Windows refused to shut down normally) and I fixed Ubuntu the same way again, but I still can't figure out why it happens....
Any ideas for a more permanent fix?

i have the same problem this morning and i solved it by checking the discs on windows...

I have the same problem I have tryed the "sudo fdisk -| and can find the NTFS partition but could not mout becouse I get the same error "file not found". Has anyone been able to fix this? My NTFS Disk is not on the Linux Hard drive but on it's own Hard drive. I'm trying to recover data off this Hard drive. The hard drive has two Partitions NTFS and recovery. Ubuntu can mount the Recovery Partition fine but can't on the NTFS. The Hard drive is from another computer thats burnt be on use.

I've tried "sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 -o force" I get

FUSE mount point creation failed
Unmounting /dev/sdb1 ()

Ubuntu's App. Disk mounter was able to mount this drive somehow.
