Installation on Laptop 64 bit

Asked by Jezwin

I am a complete newbie to Linux. So if this Question seems too stupid I am sorry... But Please do answer.

I have a VAIO F13S0E Laptop with 64-Bit i7 Processor and 6GB RAM.

Should I be using the Ubuntu Netbook? Does it support 64-Bit Laptops? Because I noticed that there is option for a 64 bit in the desktop option, but no 64-bit option for the netbook..

Or should I use the 64Bit Desktop option.

Please reply. Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Jezwin.

Yes the netbook will install on the system. You can install the desktop 64bit then install the netbook UI onto, or you can install the minimal ISO and then install the netbook UI on that.

You can install the 32bit netbook remix then add the PAE kernel which allows access to 64Gb of RAM using 32bit OS.

If you boot to recovery root mode and then run:

su foo

change foo to the username you made, then run:

startx

does it work ok?

Please create a separate question regarding your video issue. This question is regarding memory and which Ubuntu to install.

Can you help with this problem?
