the network-manager doesn't detect any network or network related device/driver

Asked by shachafgo

A week ago i installed maverick on my new samsung r580 laptop and everything worked great, i woke up this morning to find out the net app has stopped showing any network. The weird thing is that im writing this from my laptop after using a cable to connect to the internet - and the net app still doesn't recognize it.

I'm having the same issue on a bare metal machine connected via ethernet. I see no connections in the network manager applet, even when I click on connection information, I receive an error box titled "error displaying connection information: no valid connections found. I have no entries under the wired connection tab.

Here is the output of lspci:

I'm not effected by it as I'm connected to the internet but when I performed the upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 I was getting extremely low rates at obtaining the data and it took about 5 hours to complete. I had another machine updating at the same time running on top of Windows using wubi and it finished over a wireless connection in about 45 minutes. So I think I'm having some negative effects from this but not certain.

Any ideas would be most helpful.

I wanted to include the output from lspci on my other machine to do some comparisons. It is using the same network card but has some differences in bus controllers etc. Not sure if this will help track down the issue or not but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible.

LSPCI from other machine where ethernet adapter is showing up correctly in network manager. Both machines running the same release/updates etc.
