turn off firefox as default

Asked by Mike Smith

I am using Xubuntu 10.04. Google Chrome as my browser of choice. Choice set at system level and within Chrome Firefox also installed, but I don't use it). When using OO Word Processor, it insists on using Firefox for browsing activity. How can I force OO to use Chrome?

Mike,

I'm not sure how Xubuntu will differ from Ubuntu in this case?!

In Ubuntu (Lucid) OpenOffice does open my default browser, Chromium.

Is there an equivalent to System / Preferences / Preferred Applications in Xubuntu? Is so, for Web Browser does it show the path to your Chrome browser?

Best of luck (sorry for my lack of Xubuntu knowledge),
George

Yes there is a system level app preference and it is set to Chrome.

Solved it with update-alternatives terminal command.

Thanks for trying to help.

Some extra info: in Gnome, in addition to the system level preference (Sys/Prefs/Prefered Applications), it seems there are two alternatives entries for the default browser:

gnome-www-browser
x-www-browser

I found and changed gnome-www-browser first but it didn't fix the problem. (I had the opposite problem - chrome set itself up as the preferred browser everywhere and I wanted to change it back to firefox.)
