I believe Comic Sans Serif is a licensed font, so you can't get it freely.

There are lots of imitation fonts that you might want to try. However, most of them aren't of good enough quality to use on any professional document.

One of the speakers at a recent OpenOffice conference mentioned that you can get high quality fonts free from SIL International. The might have a Comic lookalike. Just google "SIL International fonts" to get to their website.

If you really want Comic Sans, you should get the Microsoft Core fonts. Search the Software Centre for "ttf-mscorefonts". If you want a less clichéd alternative, there are plenty of other options, such as the many here:

Hi Lloyd

Here's an answer I gave yesterday to the same sort of question:-

-----

Fonts belong to the OS, not to the application. So you need to go Applications > Software Centre and search for Microsoft Core Fonts and install them. That will probably give you what you are looking for.

There is also a package call Ubuntu Restricted Extras which installs them as well a certain codecs for Audio and Video.

To get these packages you will need to go (in Software Centre) to Edit > Software Sources, and make sure 'Software restricted by copyright or legal issues (multiverse)' is checked.

Please also note that packages like this are restricted by copyright or legal issues in some countries. See http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/licensing for more information.

Also I understand that if you copy font files in from, say, a Windows system, and double click them in the File Browser, you will get an installation dialogue. Never tried it myself.

Yes, that worked for me. Thanks Tony.
