diappearing icons

Asked by dompie

my system: kubuntu + ubuntu desktop on a compaq pentium 3 with 20 giga hd (13 giga free).
ooo = last updated (by ubuntu) version = 2.0.2 dutch
problems:
the icons (or most of them) of the two upper bars are visible (when starting ooo) for 2 or 3 seconds.
when positioning the mouse over them, I can read the text and open the roll menu and access the functions.

If I remember well, it started after the last ubuntu update; whel I installed kubuntu, that problem was not present.

Any solutions?

Thanks

Does this affect only Open Office, or does it appear for other applications as well? If you reinstall open office does it go away?

Also, try launching open office from the commandline and see if it gives any error messages. For example:

 $ oowriter

If it gives any error messages, paste them in here.

Thanks for answering.

It did only affect OOo, not The Gipm, or Evolution fon instance.

It came back when I did the installation the other way: first Ubuntu and
then install kubuntu desktop

It is gone after reinstalling only ubuntu 6.10

installing from the commandline is useless I think because the phenomen does
not exist anymore. I could not wait days for a solution because I need OOo.

I would like to confirm this behavior. I noticed this after I changed the icons for my KDE. If I close ooo then reopen it no problems. So this problem occurs for me only when I run ooo after I login to my KDE. BTW, I use some ubuntu applications but they are fine. Running ooo from a console doesn't mention any troubles.

If more info is needed I will be happy to do.

I've detected the same situation on my Ubuntu 7.10. If I change the icons from Human to Tango then the OpenOffice application lost their icons by next start. Some iconset as example OSX has no negative effect to OpenOffice and I can see icons in all the applications.

I've just remarked that OpenOffice 2.2 couldn't work with any SVG iconset only, but I use PNG iconset then OpenOffice works correctly.

I've solved my problem. If you want to use SVG icons like Tango you need to install additional package with PNG icons for this theme. Example for my Blubuntu theme with Tango icons I installed

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-style-tango

Thanks! That worked for me. I just had OO updated to 2.2 and has no menu icons. I installed both the industrial style and tango icons and the icons are back.

Can you help with this problem?
