Need openOffice in other languages

I have downloaded and isntalled all the files available in system?administration?languages, and selected the desired language (FRENCH in this case, but need Spanish at times too) in the tools menu of the word document; and still no spell check ... or the little abc logo next to the languages I downloaded all the packages for ... ?

Try this, this might help :

Go into the System Menu in Ubuntu, then Administration and choose Language Support. Then check every languages you need.

You may have to reboot and try again.
