Working with or importing Thai & English docs in ooo2

Asked by Taylor

Newbie to ooo2 here. I would like to switch over to OpenOffice completely if possible, but the ability to handle Thai and other Asian languages is a major hurdle (though there are several others). I have several important documents (Word 2000 .doc format) I wish to import and edit into ooo2 that contain both English and Thai (usually mixed together within each paragraph). When I open them in ooo2, I have to manually select each word or sentence that's in Thai and adjust the font and language settings via (right click -> character). I would prefer it if I could simpl open my documents and have all the language settings intact. Is there some settings adjstment or import method I am missing?

There are chances that the Thai font you have been using with Word is not a Unicode font.
Could you please provide the name of the Thai font to investigate?

I checked, and the font in my MS Word docs is Tahoma. When I switch between languages in MS Word, it automatically switches the font as well, so I don't think I chose Tahoma in particular, but that apears to be the default font for Thai.

Thank you so much for following up on this.
