using irc on pidgin

Asked by Avadh

Hello,

I am new to pidgin and IRC.
I created a new login for an irc channel. When i start pidgin it show that my irc account is enabled.
Now i want to join some chat room on irc channel, how can i do that?
I trid 'Join Chat' from 'Buddy' list but it doesn't show my irc account.
If I have only irc account enabled, then it 'Join Chat' option is not enabled.

Please let me know how should i use it.

Just try waiting a minute for the IRC server connection and the "Join Chat" option may appear for IRC, too.

open pidgin if you are using ubuntu gutsy and above has this replaced gaim

application-internet-pidgin

should get buddylist with options at the top.

click accounts then add/edit
new window will open called account listing all of your accounts
click add
get add account window
under protocol select irc
under screen name try and think of something unique.
server field should be auto populated with irc.ubuntu.com (if not type it in)
password field type a password of your choosing.
click remember password to add tick
click save
after couple of seconds a freenode-connect window should appear
the text space under font and insert type "/join #ubuntu" (without "")
2 new tabs should appear in the same window called #ubuntu and #Chanserv
click #ubuntu
you are now in the room and can start using/talking on it.

@ anilkumar not a pidgin question and please note:

Please don't append a new question on a already answered or marked as solved question.

Please create a separate thread for your new question, or else visitors to this solution page
will get confused.

Please make new question from here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion
you will get better chance to get right answer on a fresh tagged "open" question.
Solved or answered questions are usually not read from answering people.

Thank you
