I'm using PiTiVi, I thought this was the help page for PiTiVI (I got here from the help menu)

My webcam does work with cheese, however (no sound, though).

Not sure what information you need about my computer... I made it myself, it has an intel mobo and processor, modern nvidia graphics card, plenty of ram and hard drive space. The webcam is USB connected (plus mic jack) and is "driverless", here's more info on it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kinobo-Webcam-Megapixels-Windows-lights/dp/B0035ERSA8/

I have upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 Ubuntu.

hi sorry for the extra trouble im not sure why your not getting sound

i noticed something in one of the reviews about this from the link you sent (amazon)

so perhaps you dont have the volume up enough,

sorry to ask just eliminating the obvious.

you may also want to check your setting under your audio

i would suggest installing the pulse adapter , it still uses the alsa but gives you a better

g.u.i. which in preferences you can select mic boost as well as capture and other options

this software is in your add/remove or now ubuntu software under applications youll want the volume control and the line in /out options

also heres another program that may work its in your

system>admin>synaptic>(left panel)world wide web "camserv"

you can also find pulse and pulse extras here under multimedia

Hi! Thanks for the help, however it doesn't quite answer my question. Let me make it more clear:

1. My webcam/mic work perfectly when I boot to windows and use Windows Movie Maker
2. GUVCView can record video from my webcam with sound. However, there is a delay between the sound and video that I cannot find a way to fix, so this is no good. (sound works only when set to "pulse")
3. Cheese can record video from my webcam fine, but with no sound (think it's listening to the wrong sound channel but I can't find a way to set this.
4. Sound recorder can't hear my mic (again, think it's on the wrong channel, can't find how to set it).
5. In Ubuntu Sound Preferences, on the Input tab, I can see that it can hear my microphone (only when "Microphone 1/microphone" is selected in the drop-down list). The microphone is a regular sound jack that I plugged into the microphone port.
6. Webcam/video work fine with chatroulette. However, when I try to record a video on Youtube (under Upload), the video freezes on one frame and only the sound is recorded......

camserv seems to be a program to stream video over the internet. However, I only want to record videos for my own private use. I was hoping that PiTiVi might be the one that could manage audio & video with no problems. This seems impossible to achieve with Ubuntu.

I just installed Kamoso and when I first start it it says:

"Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library. The audio playback device HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog) does not work. Falling back to Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server"

It can record sound and video fine, but with a delay between the two... so this is no good.

hi again dont give up just yet you may also try this if you just have a latency issue you could run etheir audacity which has the ability to adjust that under there prefrence section. also the jamin program will do that you just have to configure the in/out properties for whatever your doing

sorry i couldnt tell you more hope you get it going.

This feature is currently disabled because it's a bit too ancient and isn't properly tested, sorry. If someone comes up and maintains it, it will be available again.
