Powernowd preventing install

Asked by Dave Hope

I am at the stage where I want/need to re-install Ubuntu. Upgrading from Breezy-Dapper-Edgy and moving hard drives has left my install a big fragmented, and I wish to move to the x86 version as opposed to amd64.

However, I am at the mercy of bug 48792. Upon booting the liveCD, the system locks and I cannot proceed any further. So, my support question is:

Is it possible to disable powernowd prior to install? As soon as it starts, my system locks.

Thanks,

Dave

Have you tried using the alternate install CD which uses a text based installer instead of the regular LiveCD?

Hadn't tried that. Downloading the alternate image now. Will update you if that works. In the mean time, if anyone has any other suggestions i'd love to hear them.

Can you help with this problem?
