Steps to build for focal

Asked by Daniel

It looks like the eoan packages are built against qt4 and need to be updated for qt5.

I'd be happy to help, but am a little rusty & would need a few pointers.

If you look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases you can see that Ubuntu eoan went "end of life" on July 17, 2020

In my opinion it does not make any sense to spend time and effort on packages for that Ubuntu release.

And if you are interested in a version without qt4 dependency: This has already been done in the version for Ubuntu groovy, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/projectm/+changelog

Sorry, I was unclear. There is already a package for eoan; I'd like to see it packaged for focal.

It's quite easy to build from source - I got it running without needing any patches etc.

Thanks,
Daniel Heath

There already is a set of packages for focal, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/projectm/2.1.0+dfsg-4ubuntu1
What's wrong with them that you want to build them again?

Remark:
Debian sid and bullseye have recently packaged version 3.1.7, so that this version might also become available in Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy).

I already packaged projectM 3.x for Focal:
https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/ubuntu/mediahacks2

Let me know if there are issues.

Oh, and @Manfred: The problem with the projectm package in Focal is that the standalone binaries were not built (projectm-pulseaudio/sdl/jack) because of the timing of the Qt4 removal. So I think it's only useful to programs that have built-in plugins for it.

Can you help with this problem?
