How do you play internet radio in Ubuntu

Asked by TonyR

I have read a number of post on this topic but cannot understand the resolution offered.

I have added the restricted format plugin with no effect.

How do you use firefox to play internet radio as suggested without any instructions provided?

The Rhythembox help will not load reporting an error launching default action command and the application reports 2 plugin error on startup Jamendo & Magnatune.

It appears like Totem the multimedia applications are so error prone and your search for answers to fine other report the exact same issues but the resolutions are vague and incomplete.

Where is the reliable information to work round so many bugs?

Hello

# On the Applications menu (top left of the screen), choose Add/Remove… (at the bottom of the menu)
# Click on the Sound and Video section on the left.
# Click “All available applications.”
# You may be prompted to install some helper applications. Allow it, you’ll need to enter your system password.
# After a few minutes, you can check both StreamTuner and Xmms Music Player after giving a search for them.
# Hit the OK button in the lower right corner.
# You’ll be asked “Apply the following changes?” Hit the “Apply” button.
# Type your system password.
# On the Applications menu, choose Accessories then Terminal.
# Type streamtuner (all lowercase, no space) and press enter.
# You can now search for Live365 streams, or Shoutcast streams.
# Double clicking opens the stream in XMMS

But, First, you should read this page:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources
on how to add extra respositories. You'll want to add the universe and multiverse repositories.

Since you have added non free codes follow the above procedure and radio should work

Bhavani Shankar.
