unable to establish file sharing

Asked by Eugene Worley

Using Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, After clicking on System > Preference>Personal file sharing, I get the error message for File Sharing "This feature cannot be enabled because the required packages are not installed on your system." Which packages do I need to install?

In Nautilus, try right-clicking on a folder you want to share, and clicking Sharing Options. When the Folder Sharing window comes up, check the box labeled "Share this folder". A message box should come up saying:

Sharing service is not installed
You need to install the Windows networks sharing service in order to share your folders.

Click "Install service" and it will install the necessary packages.

If that doesn't work, then install these two packages:

samba
libpam-smbpass

You can do that in the Ubuntu Software Center, or the Synaptic Package Manager, or from the command line with apt-get or aptitude.

Can you help with this problem?
