Hi :)

There are 2 things that might be unusual about a linux system's security

1. Often it wont give you stars as you type but it does quietly register which keys you press. This reduces the chances of anyone capturing even the length of your password.

2. It usually only asks for your normal user password, seldom your SuperUser/Root one.

This means that most users never need to know the SuperUser/Root password which restricts the circle of people that know it, which keeps it safer while still allowing most users comfortable use of the machine.

When Unix was first being developed it was crucial that none of the thousands of users could adversely affect any of the other users. Another crucial priority was that no user should be able to crash/reboot the system while there were other users logged in.

Windows, on the other hand, had no reason to worry about security until fairly recently and is now trying to bolt-on security as an after-thought. A hopeless task for them when so many people & companies profit from flaws in it's security.

Good luck and regards from
