want to change password

i would like to change the password but the person who put ubuntu on my computer did not tell me what it was and he can't remember what it is. i can't upgrade my version of ubuntu and it is no longer being supported

If you have an unsupported version I suggest you back-up and do a clean install with 12.04. If you just want to reset your password take a look here
