What have you already done so far ?
Installed sane-utils ?
Installed the brother scanner drivers brscan 2 http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_scn.html#brscan2 ?
Added a udev rule http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1c.html#u9.10 ?
What Ubuntu release are you running ? 32 or 64 bit ?

Dear Question:

I went to the ever dependable and kind people at Free Geek Vancouver and
attended their weekly Open Help Night between 6-9pm every Wednesday. The
problem was quickly solved by them........they also solved some other
screwy problems that came about from a crash when the computer was loading
the Ubuntu CD that caused the Home folder not to open. I only wish this
format of Free Geek Vancouver could be duplicated in every region, city and
town of the world as these volunteer people as so kind and knowledgeable.

PS Thank you for kind consideration in helping me

*Yours Sincerely *
*Josh Thurston*

If there is a problem with the SD card reader, that most probably is not related to the brother scan problem.

It was just a comment to show what a load of hassles having a brother
anything is
