xsane functionality in simple-scan

Hi,

I found out there are two main scanning tools in Ubuntu - simple-scan and xsane. Xsane is really old project with last upstream update seven years ago, but it still provides good features (like resolution, brightness etc.), so users don;t have to use other tools after scan.
Do you plan to implement these xsane features to simple-scan? Because IMHO it is counter-productive to have two scanning GUI apps and dragging xsane with distribution foverer because of its features.

It's not counter productive. It gives users choice and freedom to use whichever application they prefer.

Chromium browser and Firefox are in the repositories too. Having two Web browsers is counter productive so we'll get rid of Firefox...... Makes sense doesn't it?

IMHO your example is invalid. Firefox and Chromium are both live projects and provides relatively same functionality.
Xsane upstream project is about 7 years dead and is kept "alive" only for features, which aren't in simple-scan. So all distros, Debian guys, Fedora guys and Ubuntu guys, who maintains xsane, are working on their own 'versions' of xsane without any centralized effort (like upstream project).
So they spend their time with it, which they can spend on maintaining/fixing issues+sending patches/enhancing live project like simple-scan. That I see as kind of counterproductive.

If xsane is dead then please report a bug and it will be pulled. We should not have dead and unsupported packages in the repository

It's not my choice. I'm a user, just like you are. I have said to report a bug to alert the people who manage the repository (which I do not) can pull the package if they deem it appropriate.

I have given a solution. If you don't want to use it then that's fine and your choice but getting flippant at me does nothing as I have zero power over what is and isn't available to users.
