error playing cd

Asked by susandurnil

I just downloaded Ubuntu and have it working well.

When I put an audio cd in the drive to play, this is what sound juicer says:

Error playing CD.

Reason: Could not open resource for writing.

I don't want to write it; I just want to play the cd!

Does it want to extract the songs first, or something?
thanks!

Can you play the CD using other applications? Can you play any sounds at all?

The "resource" that the message refers to could be your sound card... trying typing "groups" at the command line. You should see (among others) "audio" and "cdrom".

Here's what I get at the command line:

susan adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev lpadmin scanner admin

I tried extracting the cd so that rhythmbox could play it, but it wouldn't work that way either.

I can get sounds, but I'm not getting any cd play back.
Thanks for your help!

Can you help with this problem?
