where do I find the excutable file of a program that I dowloaded through synaptic ...?

I downloaded bunch of programs through synaptic ... but I couldn't locate their icon to open them

It all depends on the actual packages you are referring to.

I would suggest you try the actual name of the package in a terminal window. (Applications menu, Accessories)

If you want the app to run without holding up the terminal window, then place a & symbol after it.

If you can give us some samples we may be able to help with the actual applications location

Did you try the commands find and locate?

Frostwire is in Defaultinstall stored in /usr/bin
and for tkgate it should be the same

Frostwire brings its own symbol when you take the actual Version of the Package. I installed it under Intrepid Beta and there wasnt a Problem with the Icon

frostwire should be under the Applications, Internet menu

My guess is that tkgate may not have a menu launch icon but could be run by opening a terminal window (applications menu, Accessories) and typing...
