easy-to-use mid(i) file player

Asked by Daan Hoogland

I have installed every sound player I could find in the Ubuntu Software Center. Still, a mid (midi) file cannot be heard.

The program I installed last was Timidity. It doesn play mid-files either. Instead it says:

Tone bank 56 is undefined. No instrument mapped to tone bank 0, program 52 - this instrument will not be heard. No pre-sampling cache hit.

In Terminal I typed:

sudo apt-get install timidity timidity-interfaces-extra timidity-el

But this also did not solve my ploblem

How can it be that this is so complicated? Everything else works better in Ubuntu (10.04 LTS) than in Windows.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards, Daan Hoogland
