tmux 1.8+ for 12.04 LTS

Asked by Ives Stoddard

Hi,

Some of the functionality that was introduced in tmux 1.8 (like pane zoom) is essential for tools like tmuxinator (which allow the simultaneous administration of multiple linux hosts).

Due to compatibility reasons with external / 3rd party software, we're unable to upgrade some of our hosts to 14.04 LTS. Are there any plans to support tmux 1.8+ on 12.04 LTS through the backports distribution channel?

Thanks,

Ives

Many thanks. I had seen those and was hoping to find an official / trusted PPA for tmux backport to 12.04 LTS.

Some of the hosts we run are in compliance environments and have strict policies against untrusted distros. Really wish I had the time to review source for each package we'd like updates for.

Will build from source then I guess.

Thanks again.

You might try manually installing the 1.8-5 version for trusty on your precise system.
It seems to me that the dependencies are met.

If that works well, you can request an official backport from trusty to precise (but I do not know whether this would be realized).
