More details please. What downloaded material? How did you generate the material you cannot delete?

Surely they are just files so you can use nautilus as you expect...

The most likely reason that you can't delete the file is that Ubuntu does not think you own it. In which case the easy fix is to temporarily promote your privileges to same as root

open a terminal and type

gksu nautilus

Once you have done this the file manager will open with you logged as root. You should be able to delete anything you want now.
Please note however you are now in complete control so make sure you only delete what you want as you have the power to completely trash your system if you are not careful.

Once you have deleted the offending material close nautilus (the file manager) and close the terminal.

You are now back to being a normal user again.
