video width in totem

Asked by radazebra

I have recently upgraded to Gutsy Gibbon and since have not been able to get totem to work correctly. Totem will play dvd and other media files but the video ratio is incorrect. The vertical component of the the display is correct but the horizontal aspect is too small so that the video display is a normal vertical height and a small horizontal one crating a strip of video. This is the case with multiple types of movies and even with the visualization of audio files.

I would try from your home directory: rm .gconf/apps/totem/ -rf
This should clear out totem preferences, which might fix the issue.

Thank you but i just fixed the problem by fixing the very large font size in my login window. In the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
In the Section "Monitor" I added:
       ... #whatevert was in already.
        Option "DDC" "no"
EndSection

and it fixed both problems. I think this is a bug found especially with a Toshiba satellite A105.

I am an absolute beginner! I've tried to change the file mentioned above but I wasn't allowed to do it(couldn't save the changes made). That's the only way to fix it? Can't I configure it to start with screen 16:9 always?
Thanks in advance for your help!
