Decoders for Kaffeine and Totem

Asked by jabudia

How should proceed in order to add "decoders" for .mpg and other audio and video formats to either Kaffeine or Totem ?

Curiously, these formats work on Keffeine o Totem in my Debian Sarge just out of the box; no decoders added. However, being Ubuntu 5.10 suposedly more modern, Kaffeine and Totem do not work if I don't first install or add such decoders...¿?

Thank you
Juan

May I quote:

Those formats which you would like to play like wmv, mp3, avi, mov and so on are not free formats, so you need decoders for it. You need a kind of pack like Ace Mega Codecs for Windows but here we call them w32codecs. All the information which you need to know where to download and how to install them you can access at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

Enjoy Ubuntu and have a nice day!
