Using Transmission downloads start fast but slow to a stop.

Asked by Tim Schuller

When downloading a torrent on Transmission, I get speeds around 500 or 600 KiB/s for about 5 minutes (sometimes up to 1.2MiB/s) but then even though I am still connected to the same number of peers, my downloads drop to idle (zero). Any ideas why this happens?

Is the disk in use when the speed drops to zero? It's possible that Transmission is writing its memory cache of downloaded data to the disk.

It's possible that non of the peers has the complete file to seed. for example, if everyone has only 60% of the whole file, then that is all that anyone can download until someone seeds the complete file. Try a different download and see if the same thing happens.
