Can you tell me if you using unetbootin under windows? And if os, are you at this step, and the bottom left drop downs do not show your disk? Does windows recognise the USB key?

Hi mycae,

I have recently test and install ubuntu from CD and USB.

To do a live USB to boot from I used USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/),
but I got installation errors, then I found another application named Unetbootin. Below the link for you to try, for me worked
successfully using a USB of 2 GB and mounting Ubuntu 10.10 on it.

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Did you try with Unetbootin already?

It works for me creating Live USB installed on Windows and Ubuntu too.
