Attempt install of Ubuntu 10.10 fails at splash screen on MSI A6000 laptop
I have a USB drive loaded with Ubuntu 10.10. The application loads fine up to about the 3rd dot of the scanning dots, then it appears that the OS stops installing.
I loaded Ubuntu onto the USB using the method provided on the Ubuntu web site.
1. Downloaded the ISO file to my hard drive and run c
2. Downloaded Universal USB installer 1.8.3.3
3. Run Pendrive Linux
4. Select Ubuntu 10.10 i386 for my 32 bit platform
5. Selected persistence (I've tried no persistence too with same error loading)
6. Reboot and attempt to load
I've tried this with a CD and also, re-downloaded the ISO and installed on the USB per Ubuntu web site instructions.
My Laptop is:
MSI A6000
Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500 2.3 Ghz
nVidia GeForce 8200 G graphics
3GB memory
180 GB Hard Drive
Bios:
Build A1683NMR, ver 3.0R 1/11/2010
EC Build 1683EMS1 Ver 4.09 11/28/2009
The hard drive came partitioned for OS and Data and there is enough space on each partition (but we aren't loading on an HD anyway)
I'm guessing there is some hardware incompatibility or something as I've attempted newer versions of the OS after there has been time for bugs to be fixed.
Any suggestions on where to look or how to test out an idea?
I'd really like to make this work. I'm running Windows 7 and have no problems, but I'd like to be a Linux person.
