Trying to install Ubuntu on Windows Virtual PC, but installation hangs up on 'Installing Language Packs'

Asked by Philip Villani

I am trying to install the most recent verson of ubuntu on a Windows Virtual PC VM, but every time I try to run the install, it hangs up on 'Installing Language Packs'

My PC is a Home-Build, 8 GB RAM, 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor, > 2TB HD space.

Every part of the installation runs smoothly up to this point, and I receive NO error messages of any kind.

Why use virtual PC? You would be better off using virtualbox. Windows aren't exactly known for making unix friendly software..

I was trying to see if I could make it work, but if I can't even get past the installation, then I may need to try some other virtualization software.

Are you positive it hangs. Those packages do take a while to download.

Hmm... Ok, Installed VirtualBox, and the installation went just as expected.

Yes, wojox, it hangs... Brogress bar stops, I can't go forward or backward on the information panes, and the activity mouse cursor is no longer moving.

Virtual PC is known to have issues with Ubuntu. I suspect Virtual PC manages correctly only Windows OS.
Virtual Box should work better. I see question is marked solved. If it's not the case, please reopen it.
