I'd like to install ubuntu desktop 32-bit from my Compaq 8510p onto a USB 120G drive, so that I can start it from that drive, can it be done?

Asked by Vickus Classen

Hello, can I install onto a USB drive and boot from the USB drive and carry on working? IE not a usb mem stick or CD or the notebook internal hard drive. An external one?

Yes, but you must specify that MBR (master boot record) must not be written on internal disk (probably sda) but on external disk. Else for multi-boot, you will need external disk to boot OS on internal disk.

Can you help with this problem?
