This process doesn't work, shift doesn't do anything and I cant get a prompt of root@something. How does linux install with a password that you don't have? PLEASE HELP.

Hey Douglas,

During the install you may have just overlooked the password setup section. If you haven't been able to even login I'd recommend just doing a fresh install and making sure to note when it prompts you for a password and writing it down or something. You can also configure it to auto-login (though you will still need your password for updates and installing new software!).

Even if it was something odd that caused the password to become corrupted a second take (reinstall) may be a good idea at this point.

Also, you might try "ubuntu" for the username and <blank> (nothing) for the password (these should be the credentials for the live environment at least).

Best of luck!
