Can't install ANY LINUX !!!

Asked by argo objartel

When i try to install UBUNTU 11.10 or any other ubuntu, a black screen with lots of text appears.

[ 4.619863] registered taskstats version 1

is the last line of the black screen
it stayed like this for 5 hours until i force-restarted the pc

I have windows 7 already installed but i want to try ubuntu without uninstalling my windows. I installed Ubuntu about a year ago on the same machine but then i got no errors and everything worked fine.

My pc stats:

Intel core 2 duo t5550 1.83ghz
2gb ram
ati mobility radeon hd 2400

I may try to upload a picture of the screen to somewhere if it helps.

Got any idea how to make it work again?

Thanks for your help !

A distro is the flavour od Linux, like RedHat, SuSE, Ubuntu, Debian. You said in your question that you can't install any linux and I was curious as to which you had tried.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

Will help

At the login screen select nity2D and you'll be ok. You can then setup your video driver and get full updates

i dont see any logon screen, all i see is blank purple screen. i will add some links to pictures i made to make it simpler to understand.

this is the screen after i start the pc :
http://www.freewebs.com/argo76/photos/ETC/IMG051.jpg

this is the screen after i chose "ubuntu" :
http://www.freewebs.com/argo76/photos/ETC/IMG052.jpg

this is the screen after i chose "Ubuntu, linuxiga 3.0.0-12-generic" :
http://www.freewebs.com/argo76/photos/ETC/IMG054.jpg

and here the computer freezes.. this purple screen stays on forever, or until i force-restart using the powerbutton.

How do i use the nity2d then ?

looks like something went bad during installation of ubuntu. You should try again a installation of Ubuntu. I will advise you to go again through the standard installation steps and perform installation. Below link might work

Did you installed with Wubi (Ubuntu inside Windows), as it looks from http://www.freewebs.com/argo76/photos/ETC/IMG051.jpg

argo, you will need to try to edit the kernel boot options, as suggested by actionparsnip...

On your screen when you get to the GNU GRUB screen (in your IMG052.png), press e to be able to edit the command line (taken from http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ubuntu-10-04-lts-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup.html )

* Using arrow keys navigate to and delete quiet and splash and type the word nomodeset in their place

I can't remember what you do to boot once you change these, I think you just press enter, or it might be Ctrl+X, as suggested in the link

Modesetting is a way for the kernel (the core OS) to talk to your video card to produce a neatly animated startup image. Some video cards do not work well together with this feature, so if you disable it, you might be able to get to the login screen.
