With the third (or more) sata hdd.. the system hangs !

Asked by Angelo Corsaro

I would add more hdd sata.
I'm able to install the os (ubuntu server 10.10), but after the first reboot.. the system hangs.
No error, no messages, nothing... only the boot stops.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10, OpenSuse 11.3, ubuntu 10.04... ALWAYS with the same result: hangs !!Just for test I installed the Ubuntu server 32bit.. just to be sure, but with the same result ...
When I booted the OpenSuse the latest message was related to HAL....

using ONLY two hdd sata, I can install and boot the new system; with three hdd nothing.
I'm using a mobo Asus M2N-SLI deluxe, an AMD X2 cpu, 8GB ram.

Help me !!

Ciao
Angelo

With Sabayon the latest message is related to udev.
With Ubuntu I can log (!!) using the emergency console and the resume logon, but after that the system hangs; if I try to use the normal logon, the screen become black and nothing more.
No one led blinks.

Are you sure the BIOS has detected all your HDD properly?
Perhaps you have a dead SATA port.

Hi Jerusvy,
I found the problem... The sat card is half dead and when the udev starts, the system hangs. I removed the sat card and the system works well.

Thanks !
Angelo

Hi Angela,

Bad hardware was highly suspected.

Good you found it.
