Hardy: Is installing a firewall necessary?

Hi,

  There doesn't seem to be a firewall running by default on Hardy. (I am not very knowledgeable though, please correct me if am wrong). I used to run Mandriva 2008 before, and I could run and configure the built-in firewall there..
  So, is separately installing a firewall on Hardy necessary? If so, which programs are recommended?
