Amazon App 12.10

Asked by Kenneth D. Rainey

I have been an Ubuntu user an evangelist for almost 10 years and an Amazon user and fan.  I own a Kindle Fire and buy a lot of stuff from Amazon.  I had high hopes for the Amazon app in 12.10 but it failed me.  Amazon marketing just tromped all over my system performance on the one computer, my netbook, where I left it ON after installing 12.10.  I had turned it off on my other machines.

I think I had the problem precisely because I do buy a lot of stuff from Amazon.  The browser kept reminding me of things I was looking for (like an electric generator after Sandy).  It was taking up a lot of real estate and I was getting the "Aw Jim, he's dead" page which I did not get with 12.04 and before.

Am I wrong?  Is there a cure?  I am still and will continue to be a fan of both Ubuntu and Amazon, but unless you can help me I will not use the app.

I suggest you report a bug. Using the app is optional.

If you decide to remove the app then you can do it from the software centre or in a terminal the command is

sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping

To report a bug the following command in a terminal starts the process

ubuntu-bug unity-lens-shopping

Can you help with this problem?
