Replacing Unity

I tried Unity and I don't like it. The replacement for the system>>administration or system.>>preferences is not clear. Simply uninstalling from Ubuntu Software Center leaves me without an interface. How do I roll back to the distribution version?

This was solved with the help of: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/unity-modern-lightweight-desktop-ubuntu-linux/ The old and the new interfaces both exist. You chose when you log-in through the session choice in the bottom panel. Desktop is the old; Netbook is the new.
