right-click menu doesn't work in gnome desktop

Asked by Rosa

I installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 in Acer Aspire One A150. Nothing in the desktop and no menu appears when I right-click.

I reinstalled UNR 10.10 from start and installed every actualization recomended and nothing occurs as far as my mouse (touchpad) is concerned. It stil doesn't work. I can't put an icon in my desktop nor an app in the left-hand launch bar. Don't have a menu I can access, if I want to change the configuration I must open a Console and do sudo gconf-editor.

I've read that there is a "main menu" but I don't have one neither.

If you press ALT+F2 and run:

metacity --replace

Does the right click work ok?

After running

metacity --replace

I've lost absolutely everything in my screen, just the background image remains, no upper bar with internet connection, clock, battery status and ubuntu symbol in the leftmost corner, no left bar with app launchers, "no nothing" :)

There are some issues with Unity as it is a relatively new system. I suggest you backup your data and use the 10.04 UNR which is more stable.

Can you help with this problem?
