no screensaver in ubuntu 11.10

Asked by Kevin

I am shocked that in all the testing of ubuntu 11.10 so far, there is no screen saver, only a screen lock. Is this coming with the final RC and just being left out of the beta for space? Seems strange to not have any screen saver options.

You should open a bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric

A question here is useless...

It says to ask a question on the top right of the website. Not sure at this point how to submit a bug here.

I just thought I was crazy. It's like leaving out tomboy or the clock. Screensavers and their options seem like a standard to me in the ubuntu releases I've seen since '09.

Just to add (unless I've missed something) there also doesn't appear to be any option or any way to stop the screen blanking after a maximum of 1 hour (no disable option). This prevents us from testing fully as our use involves machines that need to display constant on screen info.

I would also add that the label for these options ("Screen") is confusingly similar to that used to adjust the screen resolution. It took everyone I asked several minutes to find the options and several gave up looking!

The 'screensaver' (that just locks) is also buggy.

Another reason to replace it, and soonest ..
