Opening Dash logs me out

Asked by Raymond Olsen

I just updated Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. 3 October 2012. Now when I try to open the Dash I am dumped back to the user log in screen. What do I need to uninstall? How do I do it with the Dash unavailable?

It does the same thing whether I use the launcher or the Super + A keyboard shortcut. Also, another program I tried did the same thing.

If you make a new user, is it the same as that?

All three users on this computer have the same problem.
I tried running "unity" in a terminal window and got several instances of "Plugin opengl not loaded"

Possibly related, this computer has an AMD CPU but I loaded the i686 version by mistake. How can I fix that?

An error report came up saying Nautilus crashed. I was unable to capture the info on that crash.

The next round of updates fixed it.
