I lost my desktop after migration to 12.10

My desktop icons disappared after changing 12.04lts into 12.10.
I have only desktop background, no application icons, no upper toolbar.
Password was asked, right mouse click works, I can switch to terminal mode.

Do you use proprietary video drivers?
Does the system have a make and model?

Try typing unity in the termanal window. this fixed the problem for me. temporary fix only.
