struggling to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10

Asked by oros

I got the iso image version of ubuntu 10.10, burned it to disk with software that supports image burning. I use dual booting between ubuntu and windows. As I put in the disk I burned, it does nothing. When I right click on the disk and click on autorun prompt, it tells me it doesn't find autorun on the disk. For what I can see is that the version I have just shows the desktop version. I also ran all the updates on 10.04 to allow the upgrade. What can be done? must I download the LTS version?

To upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 via CD you need the alternate CD. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MaverickUpgrades

What vertion of Windows do you have?

If you have Windows 2000/XP/Vista:

Dowload InfraRecorder: http://infrarecorder.org/?page_id=5

When you burning your iso image, you need to select: "burn it like an image"
Don't move the files by "drag and drop because he can't be "bootable" after.

I wouldn't bother burning it to CD unless you downloaded it on a different computer. Just loop mount it and run the upgrade as described in that link. Read the release notes, and make a backup before upgrading.

Can you help with this problem?
