Unable to upgrade from ubuntu(8.4) on my Dell Inspiron mini.

Asked by Elizabeth

I have been unable to upgrade my Dell Inspiron mini I bought in 2009. The version is 8.4 and the notebook is still very new as I have another laptop I use. But I like using the notebook for browsing as its super fast. It seems the operating system is locked to upgrades, I have tried using the usb creator, the system keeps going grey and would not accept running any upgrade software. How can I go about this problem please. I really need to upgrade to newer version of ubuntu as the one I have is old. Thanks for any help.

Ubuntu 8.04 is no longer supported, so you have to download the latest version available and install it. You can't upgrade. Here is a list of supported versions:

Thanks for the link but mine Its a mini and has no disc drive, the easiest option is to write the newer version ubuntu to a usb drive through a usb creator but my system is refusing to run the usb creator

Can you help with this problem?
