Cant update anymore

Asked by fraggan

I got this message in the update-manager when I had deleted all the files in /var/lib/dpgk/* I had some problem with Nvidia-glx package and I followed a how-to in wich point I should delete all the files above, though it solved my nvidia-glx problem I got this new one ;) . I have copied the files back but it still the same problem. I'm not sure its a bug, but I do what it tells me to. Maybe you guys can help me. Is their any way to recreate the packagelist?

A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Read error - read (21 Is a directory), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

PS
When I do it in a terminal i got this message as well: "Reading package lists... Error!" right before the above.

This wouldnt qualify as a bug since your action in following the tutorial created the problem. I am converting into a question linked to this bug report so that you may get help in resolving your problem.

Problem solved. In /var/lib/dpkg/ their shouldn't be a map named 'status'. I removed it and replaced it with a file named 'status' that I got from my ubuntu installation trough virtualbox. And now its working...
