If you run:

uname -a; dpkg -l | grep linux-image-2

I can advise how to reduce kernels which will reduce used space a lot. If you also install and run bleachbit as root and as user (be sure to haveas many apps CLOSED as possible to unlock files, and avoid options which say they will take a long time as well as watch the browser settings (it can remove stuff you want like favourites)) then you can clean the system very well.

Thank you for your quick response to my problem.

I have run into a problem using the line of coding you sent me. H/W is a printout of results:

root@ubuntu:~# uname -a; dpkg -I | grep linux-image-2
Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
dpkg-deb: --info needs a .deb filename argument

Type dpkg-deb --help for help about manipulating *.deb files;
Type dpkg --help for help about installing and deinstalling packages.

Did I do something wrong?

it's:

dpkg -l

(lowercase L)

You don't need root for it, or I would have added sudo...

Applications->Accessories->Disk Usage Analyzer.
Could you report where most of space hard drive is used. Have a look in /var specially.

Can you help with this problem?
