file systems preferred format on an secondary disk for storage

Asked by Alan Dean

I have a second hard disc installed for storage. It is currently formatted as NTFS. Are there any known issues with this Ubuntu and this file system? Or would it be more responsive to format it as Ext4 (or FAT32)?

Thank you

Alan

If you are sure to use it only with linux it's better to format it as ext4.
NTFS can do some problems, so just change it if you can and you are secure.

linux systems support ntfs. however, ntfs is not as advanced as linux filesystems (ext3, ext4). if your hard drive crashes, most often you can't recover data easily with ntfs. it's much easier with ext3, ext4.

fat32 is worse than ntfs as all versions of windoze after 95 use ntfs.
