Defragmenting Ubuntu drive
Asked by
peter.j
I have a 1TB drive with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed using up around 750 GB. After deleting about 500Gb of stuff I now want to install 12.04 on a new partition of 700 GB while keeping 10.04 fully functional on the first 300 GB. I understand that it is generally not necessary to defrag Ubuntu drives however having deleted two years of stuff would expect files to be scattered all over the disk. I would like to make sure that when I create the new partition to install 12.04 it doesn't effect the 10.04 installation.
Any suggestions on how to tackle this one?
