Wallpaper gone after using RD

I was trying out the remote desktop tool and enabled the "disable the wallpaper when connected" option. After doing that my wallpaper no longer loads. I have since turned off RD but no change. Wallpaper still not loading and trying a different one, rebooting, etc. has no effect. At the beginning of the desktop loading after login I can see the wallpaper but near the end of the process, about the time the panel loads, the wallpaper disappears.
