Why is virtualbox not bumped up to version 4.2.x?

Asked by Marcel Partap

Albeit my installation is debian, not ubuntu (debian is even further behind at 4.1.18) - what is the technical reasons there is no deb released for the 4.2.x branch which has been available from upstream since a good quarter? Surely, many of the bugs currently opened on launchpad have been squashed upstream?

You can use the virtualbox repo for the package. It will also give raw USB access. If you have the ose version installed, I suggest you remove it

Debian is not exactly Ubuntu. You can ask debian developers - packagers why the VB is not upgraded to 4.2.
Also what Debian distro you use ? Squeeze or Wheezy ?

See here what Oracle suggests : https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

to install latest VB (4.2.6)

If you want the open source version (vitrualbox OSE) read the Debian Wiki
http://wiki.debian.org/VirtualBox

Thanks
