problem with Audio/video sound

Asked by assembler

it's strange type of problem.
my laptop is generally switched on 24 hrs (hp pavilion dv6000). during any work when i play any thing in VLC player it gives only video without sound, while at the same time if i play that file in movie player, it plays like replaying (slow motion) anything with no sound. this problem occured randomly early. but now a days it always occures. when i logout and then log in again vlc plays sound for running period but when again i run any other file, same problem occures . i reinstalled all its packages from synaptic manager but same problem is occuring. i m also running windows parallel to it but there is no problem in sound device. i m a beginner so kindly, brief the solution. when i test hardware device using hardware testing there is no problem, it gives its default sound. does not show any problem

Install the package asoundconf-gtk from Synaptic or the command-line (Applications > Accessories > Terminal):

sudo apt-get install asoundconf-gtk

Run it via System > Preferences > Default Sound Device

Pick your default sound device. Apply the setting. Reboot.

See if your sound is fine now in VLC.

I guess there was heavy load on my laptop, i gave it some rest and it started working properly.
