Screensaver not disabled while playing

Since I upgraded my Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10 VLC ignores the "Disable screensaver" setting. Is this a bug, is there a workaround (apart from disabling the screensaver manually)?

there is already a bug reported search the comments and you will find a solution.

Thanks for the link. Using xscreensaver instead of gnome-screensaver works for me, but not a real solution because I loose user switch capabilities.
